Fishkill Recreation operates a highly successful In School Recreation Program, held directly in your school. This offers more than just after school care. It offers exposure to many different areas that children are not often able to participate in.
Your child may stay after school and participate in one, any, or all of the activities listed below. The children go to the cafeteria right after school, where they will receive a snack and some running around time. (They have been in school for 6 hours by now.) Then at 4:00 a “specialist” comes in and teaches the activity until about 5:00-5:15. Then the children clean up and we run them around some more. Parents are welcomed to pick their child up any time between 5:15 and 5:45.
As a licensed day care program, We understand that many parents use this as an alternative for child care. We do, however, expect the child to participate in the activity of the day.
We offer four sessions a school year, each session has different activities. There is re-registration for each session. Please do not assume that you have a spot for the next session if you are already participating. Many activities fill up fast. Do not hesitate if you want a particular activity.
After school until 5:45, pick up until 6:00pm
After 6:00pm, $5.00 for every 5 minutes past 6:00pm
The Program is closed when school is closed in the afternoon, including snow days

NOTE: Just a reminder that these activities are for recreational purposes. We hope to introduce many different themes that children might not otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to. We try to gear each day’s events around small children’s attention span. Therefore, you should not expect your child to become an expert in his/her chosen activity. Our focus is for the children to have fun. (We do not do homework at the program.)
YOGA: This beginner’s class is created for kids to have more self-esteem and confidence. The class will give the kids a supportive and safe environment for kids to explore more about their balance and strength. The mindfulness in yoga is the way to improve skills to help calm, relax and de-stress themselves. Yoga will also assist with their concentration and patience. We will incorporate games into the class to make yoga more fun! The children will learn to use their breath as a tool to help them relax. Sign-up today to ensure a spot!
BASKETBALL: Come join us for some indoor basketball! Kids will learn the game of basketball in a fun, non-competitive environment. They will learn how to dribble, shoot and more! We will not only play the game of basketball, but other fun games including Knockout, Around-the-World and H-O-R-S-E. This activity will fill up fast so don’t wait to register! Remember to wear sneakers and athletic clothing for this activity.
GAMES GALORE- Winter is a wonderful time for the family to play games together. Our activity will introduce some old favorites like Clue, Sorry, Trouble and more! Everyone will also make their own board games! They will also get to play some Game Show Favorites: Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, Deal or No Deal and more! The kids will find out how difficult it really is to be on a panel in front of an audience. This is a great activity to help keep kids busy throughout the winter months.
SILLY SNACKS – Back by popular demand. Kids love to cook. This activity will encourage them to play with their food! They will get to make funny faces using fruits and vegetables, snowmen out of graham crackers and marshmallows, different zoo animals out of cupcakes, bunnies out of potatoes and MORE! This activity will keep the kids busy this winter. Winter will not be boring when there is something new each week. Be sure to sign-up early…this promises to fill up fast!
ARTS AND CRAFTS- This activity is great for kids with a big imagination. Kids will be very busy putting their own twist on each week’s craft. Make sure your creative spirit signs up before the activity fills up. We highly recommend that you send your child in old clothes. Kids will be working with paint, glue and other messy materials.
