Fishkill Recreation operates a highly successful In School Recreation Program, held directly in your school. This offers more than just after school care. It offers exposure to many different areas that children are not often able to participate in.
Your child may stay after school and participate in one, any, or all of the activities listed below. The children go to the cafeteria right after school, where they will receive a snack and some running around time. (They have been in school for 6 hours by now.) Then at 4:00 a “specialist” comes in and teaches the activity until about 5:00-5:15. Then the children clean up and we run them around some more. Parents are welcomed to pick their child up any time between 5:15 and 5:45.
As a licensed day care program, We understand that many parents use this as an alternative for child care. We do, however, expect the child to participate in the activity of the day.
We offer four sessions a school year, each session has different activities. There is re-registration for each session. Please do not assume that you have a spot for the next session if you are already participating. Many activities fill up fast. Do not hesitate if you want a particular activity.

NOTE: Just a reminder that these activities are for recreational purposes. We hope to introduce many different themes that children might not otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to. We try to gear each day’s events around small children’s attention span. Therefore, you should not expect your child to become an expert in his/her chosen activity. Our focus is for the children to have fun. (We do not do homework at the program.)
Mix It Up: Each day we will do a different theme activity from a past session. Back by popular demand will be: silly snacks, dodgeball, relay races, minute to win it and maybe even a few special guests! Sign up before this activity fills up!
Martial Arts: Back by popular demand! “Just for Kicks Martial Arts Studio” from Fishkill is back in our elementary schools. The activity will be conducted in bare feet and sweat pants/athletic shorts. Jeans and skirts will not be allowed. Parents are asked not to pick their child up before 5:00 pm. Be sure to sign up early… this promises to fill up fast.
Game Shows: Playing games can be fun for the whole family! Our activity will play the old television favorites like Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Deal or No Deal and more! The kids will find out how difficult it really is to be on a panel in front of an audience. This will be a great activity to help keep young minds busy after being off from school all summer!
Soccer: Register early for this activity! We will be learning new skills with emphasis on team work and good sportsmanship. Each week will focus on a new skill and different teams. This is great for kids that need to run around after sitting in the classroom all day.
Arts-n-Crafts: This 10 week program will allow students to create and complete simple projects with each class. These projects will allow exposure to different mediums including, but not limited to, oil pastels, paper, stamps and water colors. The kids will also be working with recycled items from around the house to be recreated into small works of art!
