Fishkill Recreation operates a highly successful In School Recreation Program, held directly in your school. This offers more than just after school care. It offers exposure to many different areas that children are not often able to participate in.
Your child may stay after school and participate in one, any, or all of the activities listed below. The children go to the cafeteria right after school, where they will receive a snack and some running around time. (They have been in school for 6 hours by now.) Then at 4:00 a “specialist” comes in and teaches the activity until about 5:00-5:15. Then the children clean up and we run them around some more. Parents are welcomed to pick their child up any time between 5:15 and 5:45.
As a licensed day care program, We understand that many parents use this as an alternative for child care. We do, however, expect the child to participate in the activity of the day.
We offer four sessions a school year, each session has different activities. There is re-registration for each session. Please do not assume that you have a spot for the next session if you are already participating. Many activities fill up fast. Do not hesitate if you want a particular activity.

Sport Stacking Clay Creations Sport Spectacular Mystery Activity Field Fun Day
NOTE: Just a reminder that these activities are for recreational purposes. We hope to introduce many different themes that children might not otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to. We try to gear each day’s events around small children’s attention span. Therefore, you should not expect your child to become an expert in his/her chosen activity. Our focus is for the children to have fun. (We do not do homework at the program.)
SPORT STACKING: Sport Stacking helps students develop bilateral proficiency - equal performance on both sides of the body. By increasing bilateral proficiency, a student develops a greater percentage of the right side of the brain, which houses awareness, focus, creativity and rhythm. Stacking helps train the brain for sports and other activities where the use of both hands is important, such as playing a musical instrument or using the computer. Sequencing and patterning are also elements of sport stacking, which can help with reading and math skills. We know this will fill up fast!
FIELD FUN DAY: With Spring right around the corner, this is a great activity to get everyone moving after the winter months. We will be playing some of the favorites: potato sack races, bean bag toss, and long jump along with some new and exciting games like Human Hungry Hippos. Remember to wear sneakers for this active activity!
MYSTERY ACTIVITY: This afterschool activity is always a favorite. Every week someone new will be visiting to teach the children something different! Activities in the past have included yoga, Irish step dancing, fencing, mad science and more! Expect the unexpected!
SCULPEY CLAY: Sculpting is fun and EASY! Your child will use their imagination to create an original and unique piece of sculpture. You’ll be amazed at the cute, colorful, charming and clever projects that we will make from them. This activity is for any skill level. By following the simple steps you’ll be sculpting in no time. This is a great activity for small motor skills.
SPORT SPECTACULAR: Each week the kids will get to play a different sport. We will be playing basketball, dodgeball, floor hockey, kickball and more!! Don’t forget to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle; this activity will involve lots of running around! This is a popular activity so don’t wait to sign-up!
