Fishkill Elementary School Brinckerhoff Elementary School Glenham Elementary School Fishkill Recreation operates a highly successful In School Recreation Program, held directly in your school. This offers more than just after school care. It offers exposure to many different areas that children are not often able to participate in.
Your child may stay after school and participate in one, any, or all of the activities listed below. The children go to the cafeteria right after school, where they will receive a snack and some running around time. (They have been in school for 6 hours by now.) Then at 4:00 a “specialist” comes in and teaches the activity until about 5:00-5:15. Then the children clean up and we run them around some more. Parents are welcomed to pick their child up any time between 5:15 and 5:45.
As a licensed day care program, We understand that many parents use this as an alternative for child care. We do, however, expect the child to participate in the activity of the day.
We offer four sessions a school year, each session has different activities. There is re-registration for each session. Please do not assume that you have a spot for the next session if you are already participating. Many activities fill up fast. Do not hesitate if you want a particular activity.
Activities Schedule: 2011/2012
The Program is closed when school is closed in the afternoon, including snow days

| NOTE: Just a reminder that these activities are mostly for recreational purposes. We hope to introduce many different themes that children might not otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to. We try to gear each day’s events around small children’s attention span. Therefore, you should not expect your child to become an expert in his/her chosen activity. Our focus is for the children to have fun. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Session III- KICKBOXING- Give your child a chance to experience the fun and exciting world of Kickboxing this session! Kickboxing is a fun activity that helps promote the physical health and overall well-being of children. The studying of the kickboxing has also proven to offer benefits from a mental and emotional aspect. With the proper training in the right environment, kids have the opportunity to develop a strong work ethic and respect for peers, adults, and — as importantly — for themselves. Many parents have found that kickboxing is a great way for kids to improve their flexibility and enjoy a safe cardiovascular workout. FLOOR HOCKEY - It's pretty tough to find a game that is more fun than floor hockey, in large part because it's a fast-paced, exciting sport that can be played by individuals of all ages and skill sets. Floor hockey can be played virtually anywhere. It is an action-packed sport that offers participants a fantastic opportunity to get some exercise in a fun and competitive environment. Sign-up early in order to ensure a spot! PIE MAKING - A different pie every week! – even a pizza pie. We will be making graham cracker crusts, roll out crusts, lattice tops and crumbly tops. There will be fruit pies, pecan pies, S’more pies, and more pies. Your budding chef will really enjoy learning how to make great pies - and the family will be able to enjoy the “fruits” of their labors. TAE KWON DO- The United Martial Arts Centers are committed to providing quality instruction in the Korean marital art of TaeKwonDo by fostering a fun and exciting atmosphere that allows children of all abilities to develop physically, mentally and socially. Our philosophy is based on the Five Tenets of TaeKwonDo: perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit, courtesy and integrity. Everything is done using positive reinforcement while having fun in an exciting environment. The children’s program in designed not only for your child to learn self-defense, but to become winners in life. CERAMICS- While working with Air Dry Clay your child will love getting their hands dirty when they learn basic hand building skills like sculpting, pinching, coil work, and slab building. This activity is for everyone, no matter what the skill level. Make sure your creative spirit signs up before the activity fills up!
Session II- BOARD GAMES- Board games are great for the family to spend quality time together. Our activity will introduce some old favorites like Clue, Sorry, Trouble and more! Everyone will also make their own board games! This is a great activity to help keep kids busy throughout the winter months. LET IT SNOW- Spend the session making all sorts of snowmen and snow flakes. Just like snow flakes, no two will be the same. This will be a great activity to help keep warm throughout the winter! MASK MAKING-Students will learn about the art of making masks. We will explore masks from various cultures and create an array of masks using different materials. Masks will be created with paper, plaster of paris, paper mache, and foil. Come join the fun! RELAY RACES-After sitting in class for 6 or more hours, everyone is ready to run! Relay Races were a big hit during the Track and Field activity. However, this time there will be different races to run, teams with ping pong balls on the spoon, teams to complete puzzles, teams to dress a snow man, and many more. Kids are still very active in the winter – this is the one activity that will work off some pent up energy. Don’t wait. Sign up soon. BASKETBALL- This is one activity that fills up very fast! We will have 9 weeks of learning new skills with emphasis on team work and good sportsmanship. Each week will focus on a new skill. If your child is interested in running around after school, this would be a great activity for him/her. Session I- ART SPECTACULAR- Every week we explore a different art medium.Your child will paint, sculpt, draw, using a wide variety of materials. We will paint to music, create works of art out of clay, plaster, recycled materials and more. Each student will develop new skills and create original art work while exploring creative art materials. We may get messy at times so don't forget to bring a smock (oversized T-shirt works great!). ITALIAN – Foreign language is required once your student reaches 7th grade. We have offered French, German, and Spanish. Here is an introduction to Italian. Your child can try the language before having to make a decision later on. Games like Bingo and twister will be played in Italian. Lots of fun while learning! JAZZ AND HIP HOP - In partnership with the Hudson River Performing Arts School, your child will learn the basic fundamentals of dance. This could be the one talent that could launch your child to stardom! If you have a little one that it always movin’ and grovin’ to music, this is the activity for them. TRACK AND FIELD– Your child has been sitting in class all day and would love to just run and jump. They will learn hurdles, the long jump, passing the baton, sprints, and long distance. We can almost ensure a tired child after an afternoon of Track and Field. Please sign up early in order to ensure a spot. ACTIVITY OF MYSTERY - Each week something different will happen! Maybe a sport, maybe a craft, maybe a puzzle, maybe a party, but you will never know until you show up. Please sign up early in order to ensure a spot.
