Fishkill Recreation operates a highly successful In School Recreation Program, held directly in your school. This offers more than just after school care. It offers exposure to many different areas that children are not often able to participate in.
Your child may stay after school and participate in one, any, or all of the activities listed below. The children go to the cafeteria right after school, where they will receive a snack and some running around time. (They have been in school for 6 hours by now.) Then at 4:00 a “specialist” comes in and teaches the activity until about 5:00-5:15. Then the children clean up and we run them around some more. Parents are welcomed to pick their child up any time between 5:15 and 5:45.
As a licensed day care program, We understand that many parents use this as an alternative for child care. We do, however, expect the child to participate in the activity of the day.
We offer four sessions a school year, each session has different activities. There is re-registration for each session. Please do not assume that you have a spot for the next session if you are already participating. Many activities fill up fast. Do not hesitate if you want a particular activity.
Activities Schedule: 2010/2011
Time: After school until 5:45, pick up until 6:00pm
After 6:00pm, $5.00 for every 5 minutes past 6:00pm
The Program is closed when school is closed in the afternoon, including snow days

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS:
Session I-
ARTS AND CRAFTS – Ever popular, this session’s crafts will incorporate Imagination and Creativity!! Make sure your creative spirit signs up before the activity fills up. You might want to send a “smock” every week. Paint does not come off of the clothes.
AUTUMN CELEBRATION - This class will celebrate the beautiful colors and shapes of Autumn through the use of several Watercolor techniques and graphite leads. The use of table salt and watercolor paints, wet paint on wet paper and water spray with watercolor paints are some of the techniques the class will cover. Another exploration will include the use of white glue and watercolor paints, as well as oil pastel resist and watercolor paints. The subject matters that we will focus on will include the beautiful changing colored trees that surround us, the different shapes and colors of the tree leaves, still life set-ups using fruits and flowers that are in season(pumpkins, apples, gourds of all shapes and colors), and photos of Autumnal Landscapes to name a few. The observation and drawing skills of the students will also be enhanced through the use of the various artistic activities covered in this class.
FUN TO BE FIT – After sitting in class for 6 hours, the kids are ready to do some running around. This activity will have lots fun while they are working out. Each child should come home tired but with a positive outlook. This activity requires sneakers and comfortable clothing. We will be inside and outside, so be prepared!
GUESSING GAMES – What used to be old party games, like charades and twenty questions are making a come back. This activity will help your child with logic skills and social interaction. Each week there will be a different type of game. We guarantee that your child will enjoy trivia and Pictionary. Don’t let your child be left out. Register soon.
KICKBALL - This is one activity that fills up very fast! We will have 10 weeks of learning new skills with emphasis on team work and good sportsmanship. Each week will focus on a new skill. If your child is interested in running around after school, this would be a great activity for him/her. Please sign up early in order to ensure a spot. This is a very popular activity.
